Flat keyboard, raised keyboard or touchscreen?

Flat programmable keyboards are often a natural fit for restaurants because many food and beverage items can be labeled directly on the key sheet. Raised-key registers can still work for simpler counters with fewer preset items. Touchscreen systems become more attractive when the menu, modifiers, employee controls or reporting outgrow a traditional register.

Kitchen and remote printing

If orders must print away from the front counter, tell us exactly where each item should print and what printer equipment already exists. Kitchen-printing compatibility depends on the register model, printer model, interface, cable, port and programming. A printer that connects physically is not automatically compatible.

Replacing an older restaurant register?

Restaurant replacements should preserve the workflow employees rely on: flat-key menu layout, modifier sequence, kitchen routing, guest checks or tabs, receipt format and closeout reports. An old model number alone is not enough to choose the right replacement.

Programming a restaurant register

Restaurant programming can include menu items, prices, tax setup, departments/groups, flat-key assignments, modifiers, sizes, employees, tender keys, receipt messages and kitchen-routing instructions. The exact capabilities and programming method vary by SAM4S family.

Traditional restaurant register or SAM4POS?

A traditional SAM4S register can be a good fit for a smaller operation that needs fast preset-item entry, dependable printing and straightforward reporting. SAM4POS or another fuller restaurant POS is usually the better direction when the business needs a more flexible touchscreen menu, detailed modifiers, advanced table/bar workflows, stronger reporting, multiple stations or integrations beyond a traditional register.

You do not have to change processors to buy a restaurant register. A separate credit-card terminal can remain separate. Do I need a flat keyboard?

Not always, but flat keyboards are often preferred for menu-driven food service because they provide many labeled programmable positions. The right choice depends on menu size and how employees ring orders.

Can a SAM4S register print to the kitchen?

Some SAM4S configurations can support remote or kitchen printing. The exact register, printer, interface and programming must be verified together before equipment is ordered.

Can you transfer my old restaurant programming?

Sometimes information can be preserved, exported or recreated, but a transfer should not be promised from model names alone. Send the old model, program reports or backup if available, keyboard layout and target register for review.

When should I move to POS instead of another register?

Consider SAM4POS or a fuller restaurant POS when the operation needs more flexible menu management, multiple stations, advanced employee controls, table/bar workflows, integrations or reporting that exceeds a traditional register.
