Best Cash Registers for Liquor Stores

Registers we recommend for liquor stores

Current SAM4S registers for scanner-driven counters with tactile department, tender and function keys.

What to know for liquor stores

Buying a liquor store cash register

  • Scanning. Most liquor counters scan nearly every item, so plan the scanner with the register.
  • Liquor dispensing systems. The SPS-300 Series manual lists a liquor dispensing system as a supported peripheral type. The exact system is confirmed with us before ordering.
  • Barcode scanners. A scanner connects to a serial port programmed for scanner use, and the port decides the cable (on the ER-900E Series, COM 1-2 are DB-9 and COM 3-4 are RJ-45). We confirm the exact scanner, cable and port before selling them together.
  • Cash drawer. Every current SAM4S register we sell includes a cash drawer.

Programmed & Ready

Optional. Choose Programmed & Ready on the register page and we set up departments, items, prices, taxes, clerks and tender keys before it ships — one hour of standard programming and setup is $100.

How programming works

Merchant processing rebate

Eligible approved merchants may qualify for up to $500 toward eligible equipment, programming, setup, or approved switching costs. It depends on processing volume, merchant approval, program availability and the final package. You do not have to change processors to buy.

The complete checkout, not just the box

Register, programming, accessories and payments from one team.

Most counters do not fail because the register was wrong. They fail because the register, the programming, the peripherals and the payment terminal were bought separately and never checked against each other. We can quote the whole thing as one setup.

  1. Cash register
  2. Professional programming
  3. Accessories and supplies
  4. Integrated payments

Already have a SAM4s?

You do not need a new register to look at payments. Tell us the exact model and how you take cards today, and we will find out whether your current register can be connected to integrated payment processing. Whether it can depends on the model, interface, firmware and programme, so we check rather than assume.

Cash register basics that matter

Liquor stores usually start with raised keys, barcode scanning and enough item capacity.

Keyboard style and the number of built-in printer stations are practical clues to how a register is intended to be used. They are not absolute rules, but they are excellent starting points.

Keyboard style

Flat keyboard

A flat, programmable keyboard is usually the better fit for restaurants and food service. It gives the operator a large field of programmable item and function keys for fast, repetitive order entry.

Typical fit: restaurants, delis, cafeterias, concessions and other food-service counters.

Keyboard style

Raised keyboard

A raised-key keyboard is usually used in retail, especially when a barcode scanner does most of the item entry. The operator still has dedicated department, tender and function keys without needing a large flat item-key area.

Typical fit: convenience, liquor, specialty retail and stores using UPC or barcode scanning.

Built-in printing

One-printer model

A one-printer register has a single built-in print station, normally used for the customer receipt. This is often enough when the business does not need a second printed record retained inside the register.

Ask: Do you only need the customer receipt, or do you also want an internal paper record?

Built-in printing

Two-printer model

A two-printer register adds a second built-in print station that prints alongside the customer receipt. What that second station is used for varies by model, so confirm it against the model you are considering.

Useful when: the business wants a second printed record alongside the customer receipt, for review, backup or established operating procedures.

Important distinction: a second built-in print station is part of the register itself. It is different from an external kitchen, receipt or remote printer connected to the register.
Liquor-store shortcut: Start with a raised-key retail register, verified barcode scanner and enough PLU capacity for the shelf list. Then choose one versus two built-in print stations around the printed records the business wants to keep.
