Keys plus a touchscreen is a hybrid register. The SAP-630II pairs a physical keyboard with a touchscreen and runs SAM4POS software, so it sits between a traditional register and a full POS system. About the SAP-630II

Printed journal: a second built-in print station keeps a paper record of every sale inside the register. It is not a kitchen printer.
Integrated card processing sends the sale total from the register to the card terminal, so staff do not key it in twice. It is optional: any register here can also be used with a separate card terminal and your current processor. Where a model says “Confirm first”, we check the interface, firmware and payment path before quoting integration. Eligible merchants who choose our processing may qualify for up to $500 toward switching, such as qualifying payment equipment or setup, depending on processing volume and program approval. Kitchen or remote printer: this is a separate printer placed where the orders are made, not the second built-in station of a dual-printer register. Scale for weighed items: a scale has to match the register’s interface and programming. Scale options are documented for the SAP-630II on its product page. For any other model, tell us the scale you plan to use and we will confirm it before you order.

Without internet: the registers shown are the ones whose manufacturer documentation describes ringing sales, printing receipts, keeping the electronic journal in memory and running X and Z reports on the register itself. Where they have a network port, it is documented for integrated card payments, which need an internet connection, and on the SPS-300 models also for linking registers in the store. The SAP-630II is not listed for this; ask us how SAM4POS runs for your setup.
Monthly fees: ask us to confirm the ongoing costs for the model you choose before you order, including any optional software. Taking cards has its own processing fees whichever register you use. The SAP-630II runs SAM4POS software under a Lifetime-Use License with 5 years of software updates; its product page says what the price includes.

Seven questions to answer before buying
- How are items entered? Departments, PLUs, barcodes or menu keys?
- Raised or flat keyboard? Raised keys favor quick tactile item/department entry; flat keyboards fit labeled menu/function layouts.
- How many items or PLUs? Capacity matters before you buy.
- One printer or two? Decide whether you need customer receipt only or receipt plus a journal record.
- Which peripherals? Scanner, scale, customer display, kitchen printer, cash drawer and payment terminal must be verified by model/interface.
- What reports matter? Daily totals, cashier reports, department/item reporting and other management needs should be identified first.
- Traditional register or POS? If you need advanced inventory, customer information, integrations or multi-station operation, compare a hybrid/POS system before choosing an ECR.
Need barcode scanning?
Do not assume every cash register accepts a barcode scanner. The scanner, cable/interface and register programming all have to match. What about credit card processing?
Buying a cash register does not commit you to a processor. A separate payment terminal can remain separate, while supported models can also be evaluated for integrated-payment workflows. Treat the register and processing decisions separately and combine them only when integration improves the business.

Buying for a new business?

What is the best cash register for a small business?
There is no single best model for every small business. A simple shop may only need an ER-180U or ER-260EJ, while a barcode-heavy retailer may need an ER-900 or NR-series model and a more advanced business may be better served by SAP-630II or SAM4POS. Choose from the workflow first.
Can I buy a cash register without a monthly software fee?
Yes. Traditional electronic cash registers are commonly sold as hardware without a recurring POS software subscription. More advanced hybrid or POS systems can involve optional or required software/services depending on configuration, so confirm the complete setup before ordering.
Do I need a POS system instead of a cash register?
Not necessarily. If the business needs simple checkout, receipts and basic reporting, a traditional register may be enough. If you need advanced inventory, customer management, integrations or multiple connected stations, compare POS options before deciding.
Can a cash register connect to a barcode scanner?
Some can and some cannot. Verify the exact register model, scanner, cable/interface and required programming rather than assuming compatibility.

What is the difference between an electronic cash register and a touchscreen POS?
An electronic cash register is a self-contained machine with physical keys: you program departments and items on the register itself, ring sales and print receipts. A touchscreen POS runs software on a screen with on-screen menus and usually adds deeper inventory, customer records and connected stations, with more to set up and maintain.
