About the SPS-345
What it is and who it fits
The SPS-345 is the SPS-300 Series raised-key model, which CRS positions for retail. Its 21 keyboard PLU keys work like traditional departments or preset-price keys, a SAM4s dealer can expand them to 63, and it prints both a customer receipt and a journal.

Key features
- Receipt and journal printers. Two 22-line-per-second thermal printers with drop-and-print loading, and a condensed journal feature.
- Expandable keyboard. 21 double-width PLU keys as delivered; a SAM4s dealer can set the keyboard up for 63 PLU keys.
- Eight-line operator display. 8 lines x 32 characters, backlit, with a red, green or blue background. Each item is named as it is entered, and reports and program options are viewed and selected on screen.
- Multi-register network (IRC). Link up to 8 SPS-300 registers for consolidated reports, program downloads and a shared kitchen printer. What the network does and does not do
- Scanning. A bar code scanner connects to an RS-232C port; not-found PLU registration builds the item file as you scan, and up to 15 PLU look-up keys each show up to 8 items.
- Card payments. The Ethernet port connects a Datacap DC Direct device (firmware v2.000 and later) or a Dejavoo terminal (v2.0.15 and later), with an SD card kept installed for EMV. A register with either enabled runs standalone, off the network; the Datacap DataTran appliance connects by RS-232C instead and can be shared across it.
- SD card port. Save and load the program, capture reports, update firmware and upload receipt graphics; the port sits under the printer cover.
- Everyday capacity. Up to 200 guest checks, 5 price levels per PLU, 4 tax rates or tables and sales-by-day reports for 31 days.

The second station is an internal journal, not a kitchen printer. It prints a continuous paper record that stays inside the register for the owner's own reference, alongside the customer receipt. An external kitchen or remote impact printer is a completely separate peripheral that sits away from the register and has to be specified, connected and programmed on its own.
Electronic journal. This register can keep journal records electronically inside the machine rather than only on paper. That is an electronic recordkeeping capability, not an extra print station: it does not add a second built-in printer, and it is not an external kitchen or remote impact printer.

More than one register?
Network up to 8 SPS-300 registers (IRC)
Every SPS-300 has an Ethernet port for inter-register communications (IRC). Two registers connect directly with a crossover cable; three to eight connect to an Ethernet switch. Any SPS-300 model, including this SPS-345, can join the network.
What the network does
- One set of reports. Take consolidated X (read) or Z (reset) reports for all the registers, or chosen ones, from any register.
- Program once, send to all. New items and price changes made on one register are sent to all or selected registers with Program Down. They are not sent automatically: you choose when to send them.
- Shared kitchen printer and payment appliance. A kitchen printer and a Datacap DataTran appliance plugged into one register can be used by the others; that register shows WORKING for a moment while it passes the job on. The manual recommends connecting both to the same register.
- PC reporting. A PC connected to one register can collect reports from, and load programs to, the others with the optional SAM300 or PC-Poll software.
What stays on each register
- Scales, scanners, pole displays and coin dispensers work only with the register they are plugged into.
- Guest checks stay on the register where they were opened; each register's check file can still be polled.
- A register in the middle of a sale or switched off cannot answer and shows IRC NOT READY. The manual recommends leaving the power switch on and turning the register off with the mode key.
- Integrated card payments over Ethernet. With Datacap DC Direct or Dejavoo enabled, that register runs standalone: no program downloads, shared reports or printer sharing. A payment setup for a networked store has to be planned with this in mind.
Planning the network
- Cable: shielded Cat 5e (STP) at minimum, Cat 6 also acceptable, with no run longer than 328 ft (100 m) between a register and the switch.
- Each register gets its own number (1 to 8) and the network range in its IRC options; the register holding a shared printer or DataTran is named there too.
- After adding a register to an existing network, power every register off and on so the new one is recognized.
