Before buying a drawer

  • Record the exact SAM4S register or POS model.
  • Check whether the current drawer connects to the register or printer.
  • Photograph the cable and connector.
  • Confirm drawer dimensions and bill/coin till needs.
  • Do not assume RJ-style connectors are electrically interchangeable.

If the drawer will not open

Check the lock position, cable, tender or no-sale key, receipt-printer status and programming before replacing the drawer.

          Cash-drawer compatibility checklist

          Confirm what opens the drawer before choosing the replacement.

          Cash drawers may be driven by the register, by a receipt printer or by another interface. The cable fitting the jack is not enough to establish compatibility.

          Register-driven

          Some SAM4S registers connect directly to the cash drawer and use the register's own drawer port and kick signal.

          Printer-driven

          Many POS systems open the drawer through the receipt printer. The printer model and drawer-kick specification become part of the compatibility check.

          Connector & kick signal

          RJ-style connectors can look alike while using different pinouts or voltages. Confirm the actual interface before connecting a replacement.

          Physical requirements

          Check width, depth, till layout, bill/coin slots, media slots, lock style and whether a heavy-duty drawer is justified by transaction volume.

          Existing cable

          If the drawer has a removable cable, identify it. If the cable is captive, photograph the plug and record the current register or printer model.

          Do not force a mismatch

          An incorrect drawer connection can fail to open and can potentially damage equipment. Verify the interface rather than experimenting with similar-looking plugs.

          Check compatibility first
          Receipt printers Thermal printers for the customer receipt. Confirm USB, serial or Ethernet against what is actually driving the printer.
