Buy SAM4S Cash Register Programming

Program the workflow, not just the keys

Plan the register setup around how the business actually rings sales.

Good programming makes the register easier for employees to use and gives the owner useful reports. Start with the exact model, preserve the existing setup, then change one area at a time and test it.

Taxes

Confirm tax rates, taxable departments/items and any non-taxable exceptions before changing tax programming.

Departments & PLUs

Plan item names, prices, open-price versus preset-price behavior, department structure and barcode use before entering large item lists.

Receipt information

Set the business name, address, phone, custom receipt messages and print behavior, then verify them with a test sale.

Keyboard layout

Put frequently used functions where employees can reach them easily and document any custom key changes.

Clerks & reports

Configure operator access around the business and make sure the owner knows which X and Z reports to use.

Connected equipment

Scanner, printer, cash-drawer and communications settings must match the exact hardware and interface being used.

Choose the programming path that fits the job.

  • Manual or Programming Assistant: useful for a specific change when the exact model is known.
  • PC utility: useful for supported register families when programming, backup or data management is easier from a computer.
  • Programmed package: useful when a new register should arrive set up around the business workflow.
  • Specialist help: useful when the setup is complex, the current programming must be preserved, or several peripherals are involved.
Before broad changes, resets or initialization: print useful reports and preserve the current programming whenever possible. Change one area at a time and test a small transaction before returning the register to service.

Help with a register you already own

You do not need to have bought the register from us.

We take paid remote support and programming work on SAM4S registers regardless of where the machine came from. That includes registers bought from another dealer, bought used, inherited with a business, or left without dealer support. Tell us the model and what is happening, and we will tell you honestly whether we can help remotely.

Start a support request

Support — something is not working

Choose support when the register is misbehaving and you need it diagnosed or corrected.

  • The register is not operating correctly
  • An error message or code needs diagnosing
  • A printer, cash drawer or peripheral is not responding
  • Questions about operating the register day to day
  • Working out whether hardware has actually failed

Programming — something needs changing

Choose programming when the register works but the configuration is wrong or out of date.

  • PLU or item changes
  • Department changes
  • Tax programming
  • Receipt header changes
  • Keyboard or menu changes
  • Larger register setup or configuration projects
Bought the register from SAM4sDirect or think you may already have support coverage? Start the support intake before buying a block so we can check the purchase record and any applicable coverage first.

One-time technical support

2 options

Buy a block of remote time for troubleshooting and diagnosis. Billed in 30-minute increments.

Ongoing coverage

1 option

Annual coverage for one applicable register or system, during normal support hours.

Support hours Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern, excluding holidays. We do not offer or advertise 24/7 support.
Not everything can be fixed remotely Some faults are mechanical or need parts. If remote work will not solve it, we will say so rather than bill for time.
Programming is separate Programming is a distinct service from troubleshooting, and is not automatically included in a support plan.
Needing help more than occasionally? If you expect several sessions in a year, an annual support plan may work out more economical than buying individual blocks of time. Compare the plan against what you are likely to use — it is not the right answer for everyone.
Programming scope

Choose the level of setup the business actually needs.

These are scope levels for planning a programming job, not fixed-price packages. The exact scope depends on the register model, the amount of data, the workflow and any connected equipment. We confirm the job before quoting or promising a specific result.

1
Core setup

Basic business programming

For a straightforward register that mainly needs the core settings established correctly.

  • Business / receipt information
  • Tax settings supplied by the customer
  • Core departments or sales categories
  • Clerks and primary tender keys as required
2
Items & workflow

Detailed item and keyboard setup

For businesses with a larger item list or a more deliberate operating workflow.

  • PLUs/items and supplied prices
  • Open-price versus preset-price behavior where supported
  • Keyboard layout and commonly used functions
  • Owner reporting requirements
3
Peripherals

Register + connected-equipment setup

For installations that include scanners, remote printers or other supported peripherals.

  • Exact peripheral models must be identified first
  • Interface, cable and register support must be confirmed
  • Communications settings are configured only to documented requirements
  • No compatibility is assumed from connector shape alone
4
Conversion / multiple registers

Replacement or multi-register standardization

For more involved jobs where preserving a prior workflow or repeating a standard setup matters.

  • Review the old model and existing programming before changes
  • Preserve backups or reports when the model and available tools allow it
  • Define one standard configuration before repeating it
  • Coordinate startup requirements before shipment or setup
What we need first

Better input produces a better programmed register.

Send the exact register model, business name and receipt information, tax settings you want entered, departments/items and prices, clerk requirements, keyboard preferences, reports you use, and exact models of any connected peripherals.

Replacing an existing register? Preserve the current setup before broad changes, resets or initialization whenever the model and available tools allow it. The old model number, reports and keyboard photos are valuable reference material. Go to the replacement center →

The complete checkout, not just the box

Register, programming, accessories and payments from one team.

Most counters do not fail because the register was wrong. They fail because the register, the programming, the peripherals and the payment terminal were bought separately and never checked against each other. We can quote the whole thing as one setup.

  1. Cash register
  2. Professional programming
  3. Accessories and supplies
  4. Integrated payments

Already have a SAM4s?

You do not need a new register to look at payments. Tell us the exact model and how you take cards today, and we will find out whether your current register can be connected to integrated payment processing. Whether it can depends on the model, interface, firmware and programme, so we check rather than assume.
