Hardware compatibility

Documentation supports this pairingVerification required

Documented in:SPS-300 Operators-Programming ManualSPS-300 Series Help

Verification is still required for the exact interface, connector or cable, available power, firmware and programming before this hardware should be ordered for the register.

A connector that physically fits does not by itself establish compatibility. Interface, cable, protocol, firmware and programming can all matter, so anything not marked as established should be confirmed with us before you order. Ask us to confirm a pairing.

Programming & support

Support and programming are sold as time blocks at $100 per hour, or $50 for a 30-minute block, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern. There is no 24/7 line. You do not need to have bought the register from us.

Supplies

This model uses 58 mm (2.25 in) receipt paper. Check the roll diameter your printer accepts as well as the width, since width alone does not guarantee fit.

Taking card payments too? Processing is a separate decision from the register, and you can buy any register, package, support or programming here without changing processors. If you want a second opinion on your current statement, equipment and pricing, we can review it.

Best for

Where this model fits.

Detailed retail or food-service checkout.

RetailItem-driven checkout for general retail operations.
Raised-key keyboardBarcode scanning
Prioritize item entry, barcode workflow, receipt handling, and appropriate peripheral connectivity.
Food ServiceMenu-driven checkout for restaurants, counters, cafés, and similar food operations.
Flat keyboardKitchen printer
Treat an external kitchen or remote impact printer separately from a register's built-in receipt or journal station.

Decision guide

Why you might choose a different register.

Choose a raised-key model instead whenMost items are scanned and employees mainly need tactile department, tender and function keys for a retail workflow.
Choose a single-printer model instead whenAn electronic journal is sufficient and the business does not need a second built-in paper-journal station.

These are workflow differences, not quality rankings. Use the Register Finder or ask us to compare the exact models before ordering.

The second station is an internal journal, not a kitchen printer. It prints a continuous paper record that stays inside the register for the owner's own reference, alongside the customer receipt. An external kitchen or remote impact printer is a completely separate peripheral that sits away from the register and has to be specified, connected and programmed on its own.

Electronic journal. This register can keep journal records electronically inside the machine rather than only on paper. That is an electronic recordkeeping capability, not an extra print station: it does not add a second built-in printer, and it is not an external kitchen or remote impact printer.

Compatibility

What we have verified so far.

Documented in:SPS-300 Operators-Programming ManualSPS-300 Series Help

What still has to be confirmed for your counter:
  • The manufacturer documents this at the series family level, not as a guaranteed match for one exact configuration.
  • The exact port and connector on your equipment has to be confirmed.
  • The exact cable has to be confirmed.
  • Port programming and device settings have to be confirmed.
  • The intended workflow has to be confirmed before anything is ordered.

Compatibility status: Verification required. We confirm the exact configuration before recommending or shipping equipment.

Programming Programming is available for this model.

Tax setup, departments and items, prices, clerks, keyboard layout and receipt information are a defined service, separate from the hardware unless a package says otherwise.

Support Support is available for this model.

Technical support is a separate service from programming. Support hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern; we do not offer 24/7 support. The current support rate is $100/hour.

Replacement & upgrade

Replacing ER-5200M

These flat-key directions better match food-service and menu-driven operation. Kitchen printing, guest checks, modifiers and programming requirements must be reviewed.

Read this before you buy an accessory

This tells you what kind of device the register supports. It does not tell you that a particular scanner, printer, scale or display will work with it — that depends on the exact model, cable, port programming and firmware, and still has to be confirmed. The accessories we have actually verified for this register are listed below.

Accessories documented for this register

These are exact products, matched to this exact register. Anything not listed here is not ruled out — it simply has not been verified yet, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a guess.

Documented does not mean plug-and-play: port programming, baud settings and the correct cable still have to be right, and that is what we confirm with you before anything ships.

Complete your system

Take card payments through the same system

Integrated payments mean the card terminal and the register talk to each other, so the sale is entered once and the totals agree at the end of the day.

Enter the sale once

No keying the total into a separate terminal, and no reconciling two sets of numbers because someone typed it twice.

One setup, one support call

The register, the peripherals and the payment side are set up together, so when something needs attention there is one number to ring.

Checked against each other first

We verify the register, the processing program and the integration path as one combination before recommending it, rather than assuming parts fit.

A processor change is not required to buy equipment. If you are already taking cards, send us a recent statement and we will tell you plainly whether a change is worth making.

Build the counter around the register

Do not assume a peripheral is compatible because the connector looks right. Confirm the exact model and interface before ordering.

3

Replacing an older register?

The old model number is one of the most useful pieces of information you can give us. It helps us compare keyboard style, printer layout, workflow and existing peripherals before recommending a replacement.

4

Need multiple registers?

Several registers on one counter, or several counters in the same business, should be quoted as one system rather than as unrelated checkout clicks. Tell us how many registers you need, which peripherals repeat at each one and how you want them programmed.

Optional payment review — after the register decision

Would you like us to review your current processing statement?

If your current processor and payment setup are working well, keep them. If you want a second opinion, we can review the statement and discuss whether changing anything actually makes sense for the business.

A processor change is not required to buy a register.

Cash register basics that matter

Two simple hardware choices can narrow the right cash register quickly.

Keyboard style and the number of built-in printer stations are practical clues to how a register is intended to be used. They are not absolute rules, but they are excellent starting points.

Keyboard style

Flat keyboard

A flat, programmable keyboard is usually the better fit for restaurants and food service. It gives the operator a large field of programmable item and function keys for fast, repetitive order entry.

Typical fit: restaurants, delis, cafeterias, concessions and other food-service counters.

Keyboard style

Raised keyboard

A raised-key keyboard is usually used in retail, especially when a barcode scanner does most of the item entry. The operator still has dedicated department, tender and function keys without needing a large flat item-key area.

Typical fit: convenience, liquor, specialty retail and stores using UPC or barcode scanning.

Built-in printing

One-printer model

A one-printer register has a single built-in print station, normally used for the customer receipt. This is often enough when the business does not need a continuous paper journal retained inside the register.

Ask: Do you only need the customer receipt, or do you also want an internal paper record?

Built-in printing

Two-printer model

A two-printer register adds a second internal journal station. That journal roll stays inside the register and creates an analog paper record of transactions in addition to the customer receipt.

Useful when: the owner wants a physical transaction journal for review, backup or established operating procedures.

Important distinction: the second built-in printer is a journal printer. It is different from an external kitchen, receipt or remote printer connected to the register.
Before adding this model to the cart: confirm whether its keyboard style fits your business and whether its built-in printer configuration gives you the receipt and journal workflow you expect.
