A bakery register should make a morning rush of named items quick to ring: by the piece, by the half-dozen and dozen, and the coffee alongside. Most bakeries ring from a menu rather than scanning, which is why a flat, programmable keyboard is the usual starting point. Then check item count, whether anything is sold by weight, and whether orders need to print anywhere else.

Custom cake and special orders. A traditional register rings the sale and prints the receipt; it does not keep an order book, pickup dates or customer details. If you take many custom orders, keep them in your order system or compare a POS system.
Selling by weight. If you sell cookies, candy or bread by weight, decide whether the scale must send the weight to the register or can work on its own as a price-computing scale. A connected scale has to match the register’s interface and programming, so tell us the scale you plan to use and we confirm it before you order. Printing orders for the back. If a bakery-café sends drink or sandwich orders to a prep area, that needs a separate kitchen or order printer. It is not the second built-in printer on a dual-printer register, which keeps a journal of sales. Tell us the register you are considering and we confirm whether a kitchen printer is documented for it. Food-service cash registers and kitchen printing
These are the flat-keyboard SAM4S registers we list for food service and menu-driven counters. Prices shown are the current prices on each register’s page, and every one includes a cash drawer.

Programming is optional. Choose Programmed & Ready on the register page and we add one hour of standard programming and setup for $100: tax rates, departments, items and prices, clerks, keyboard layout and your receipt header, with a basic configuration review before the register ships. Choose Register Only to set it up yourself. Large item files, data transfers from an old register and unusual peripherals may need extra time, quoted separately.
You do not have to change processors to buy a cash register. Any register here can be used with a separate card terminal and your current processor. If you want to compare your processing, we can review standalone, semi-integrated or integrated payments, and pricing such as interchange-plus, flat rate, dual pricing or cash discount, as a separate step after the register is chosen.
Eligible approved merchants may qualify for a rebate of up to $500 toward eligible equipment, programming, setup or approved switching costs when setting up merchant processing through SAM4sDirect. The actual rebate depends on processing volume, merchant approval, program availability and the final equipment and processing package. A rebate is not guaranteed until eligibility and the final program are confirmed.

Tell us the make and exact model of the register you have now (SAM4S, Samsung, Casio, Sharp or another brand), with a photo of the keyboard and a sample receipt. We match the keyboard style, printer arrangement, item count and connected equipment to a current model, and say plainly when an old program cannot be moved across directly.
Consider a POS system when the bakery needs custom-order tracking, online ordering, ingredient-level inventory, table service or several connected stations. Cash register vs POS system
Most bakeries start with a flat-key register built for menu-driven food service, such as the ER-265EJ or NR-510BE for a smaller menu, or the ER-920E, ER-940E or SPS-340 for a larger one. Pick a dual-printer model if you want a printed journal.
A flat keyboard is usually better for a bakery: it gives many labeled menu keys under one sealed surface that is easy to wipe clean. Raised keys suit shops that mainly scan barcodes.
No. A traditional register rings the sale and prints a receipt but does not keep an order book or pickup schedule. Track custom orders separately or compare a POS system.
No. The second built-in printer keeps a journal of sales. Printing orders to a prep area needs a separate kitchen or order printer, confirmed for the register model.
Programmed & Ready adds one hour of standard programming and setup for $100, covering taxes, departments, items, prices, clerks and your receipt header. Programming is optional.
Send us what you sell, roughly how many items, whether you scan barcodes and how you take cards, and we will recommend a current register and tell you what we still need to confirm. SAM4sDirect responds during normal business hours, Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM.
