A gift shop or novelty store register has to ring a wide, changing mix of small items quickly, often with seasonal staff at the counter. The choice comes down to three things: whether you ring by department or scan barcodes, how many distinct items you need to store, and whether you want a printed journal of every sale.

A scanner only reads the barcode; the register still needs that item stored with its price, tax and department. Scanner, cable and register port have to match, so we confirm the exact scanner for the model you choose before selling them together.

Programming is optional. Choose Programmed & Ready on the register page and we add one hour of standard programming and setup for $100: tax rates, departments, items and prices, clerks, keyboard layout and your receipt header, with a basic configuration review before the register ships. Choose Register Only to set it up yourself. Large item files, data transfers from an old register and unusual peripherals may need extra time, quoted separately.
You do not have to change processors to buy a cash register. Any register here can be used with a separate card terminal and your current processor. If you want to compare your processing, we can review standalone, semi-integrated or integrated payments, and pricing such as interchange-plus, flat rate, dual pricing or cash discount, as a separate step after the register is chosen.
Eligible approved merchants may qualify for a rebate of up to $500 toward eligible equipment, programming, setup or approved switching costs when setting up merchant processing through SAM4sDirect. The actual rebate depends on processing volume, merchant approval, program availability and the final equipment and processing package. A rebate is not guaranteed until eligibility and the final program are confirmed.

Tell us the make and exact model of the register you have now (SAM4S, Samsung, Casio, Sharp or another brand), with a photo of the keyboard and a sample receipt. We match the keyboard style, printer arrangement, item count and connected equipment to a current model, and say plainly when an old program cannot be moved across directly.
A traditional register covers checkout, cash control, receipts and daily reports. If you need item-level stock counts, purchasing, customer accounts, an online store kept in sync with the counter, or reporting across several locations, compare a POS system before buying a register. For a small shop that rings by department and does not scan, a simple register such as the ER-180U or ER-260EJ is usually enough. If you scan most of your stock or carry thousands of items, look at the NR-510RBE or ER-925E, and choose the SPS-345 if you want a printed journal.
Not always. Scanning pays off when most items carry barcodes or you label your own stock. A shop with a smaller, hand-priced assortment can ring quickly with department keys instead.
Yes, if checkout is mostly ringing items and taking payment. The same questions apply as for a gift shop: how you enter items, how many you need to store, and whether you need a printed journal.
Yes. Programmed & Ready adds one hour of standard programming and setup for $100, covering taxes, departments, items, prices, clerks and your receipt header. Programming is optional.
No. Any of these registers can be used with a separate card terminal and your current processor. Reviewing processing is optional and separate from buying the register.
Send us what you sell, roughly how many items, whether you scan barcodes and how you take cards, and we will recommend a current register and tell you what we still need to confirm. SAM4sDirect responds during normal business hours, Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM.
