The ER-945E combines the ER-900E Series raised-key keyboard with receipt and journal printers, for a retail counter that wants tactile department keys and a printed journal of every sale.

  • Receipt and journal printers. Two 22-line-per-second thermal printers with drop-and-print loading, and a condensed journal feature.
  • Operator and customer displays. A blue backlit two-line, 16-character LCD for the operator and a rear 9-digit LED display for the customer.
  • SD card port. Save and load the program, capture reports, update firmware and upload receipt graphics.
  • Card payments. One Ethernet port for semi-integrated DC Direct payments; EMV needs a compatible PIN pad and a persistent internet connection.

The second station is an internal journal, not a kitchen printer. It prints a continuous paper record that stays inside the register for the owner's own reference, alongside the customer receipt. An external kitchen or remote impact printer is a completely separate peripheral that sits away from the register and has to be specified, connected and programmed on its own.

Electronic journal. This register can keep journal records electronically inside the machine rather than only on paper. That is an electronic recordkeeping capability, not an extra print station: it does not add a second built-in printer, and it is not an external kitchen or remote impact printer.

This model uses 58 mm (2.25 in) receipt paper. Check the roll diameter your printer accepts as well as the width, since width alone does not guarantee fit.

ER-5240M→ER-945E

For businesses replacing an ER-5240M, the ER-945E is the closest current SAM4S fit based on the documented feature comparison: both have a traditional raised-key keyboard intended for retail, separate receipt and journal printers on 58 mm paper, up to 99 clerks and a two-line operator display, and the ER-945E raises item capacity from up to 10,000 to up to 22,000 PLUs. This is a documented feature comparison, not a manufacturer replacement statement. The ER-915E and SPS-345 are options to discuss.

What does not carry over: the old DataTran payment connection does not carry forward (current ER-900E registers use DC Direct over Ethernet), and the register program must be rebuilt, because nothing documents loading an ER-5240M program into an ER-900E register. NCI/CAS scale compatibility is not established for the ER-900E. No scanner, scale, printer, cash drawer or other peripheral should be assumed reusable until it is verified by exact model.
