A boutique register has to handle apparel and accessories that come in sizes and colors, change every season and are often exchanged. The big decision is whether you ring by department with the price typed in, or scan a tag for every size and color. That choice decides how many items the register must store, and whether a register is enough or you need a POS system.

On a cash register, every barcode you scan is a separate stored item (PLU). A top in four sizes and three colors is twelve items if each has its own tag. Count your styles, multiply by the sizes and colors you tag separately, and add your accessories. If the number runs into the thousands, choose a model with room to spare, or ring by department instead.
These are current raised-key SAM4S registers listed for retail checkout. Prices shown are the current prices on each register’s page, and every one includes a cash drawer.

Programming is optional. Choose Programmed & Ready on the register page and we add one hour of standard programming and setup for $100: tax rates, departments, items and prices, clerks, keyboard layout and your receipt header, with a basic configuration review before the register ships. Choose Register Only to set it up yourself. Large item files, data transfers from an old register and unusual peripherals may need extra time, quoted separately.
You do not have to change processors to buy a cash register. Any register here can be used with a separate card terminal and your current processor. If you want to compare your processing, we can review standalone, semi-integrated or integrated payments, and pricing such as interchange-plus, flat rate, dual pricing or cash discount, as a separate step after the register is chosen.
Eligible approved merchants may qualify for a rebate of up to $500 toward eligible equipment, programming, setup or approved switching costs when setting up merchant processing through SAM4sDirect. The actual rebate depends on processing volume, merchant approval, program availability and the final equipment and processing package. A rebate is not guaranteed until eligibility and the final program are confirmed.

Tell us the make and exact model of the register you have now (SAM4S, Samsung, Casio, Sharp or another brand), with a photo of the keyboard and a sample receipt. We match the keyboard style, printer arrangement, item count and connected equipment to a current model, and say plainly when an old program cannot be moved across directly.
A cash register does not keep stock counts by size and color, customer profiles or an online store in sync. If you need any of those, compare a POS system. Cash register vs POS system · Gift shop and novelty store registers
A boutique that rings by department usually does well with a raised-key register such as the ER-260EJ or NR-510RBE. If you tag and scan every size and color, choose a model with more item capacity, such as the ER-925E or SPS-345.
Yes, if each has its own barcode. Each scanned barcode is stored as its own item with a price, so count sizes and colors when you work out how many items you need.
Not in the way a POS system does. A register reports what was sold by item and department, but it does not keep stock counts by size and color.
Discount and refund keys can be programmed, and clerk numbers show who rang each sale. Tell us how you handle exchanges and markdowns and we set the keys up for that workflow.

Send us what you sell, roughly how many items, whether you scan barcodes and how you take cards, and we will recommend a current register and tell you what we still need to confirm. SAM4sDirect responds during normal business hours, Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM.
