Using a traditional cash register? Serial / RS232 models may require their own power supply and the correct serial cable. Using a modern POS system? USB is common when the POS supports a USB scanner interface.

A scanner can physically plug in and still be incompatible. Confirm 1D versus 2D scanning, the connection type and any register programming requirements before ordering.
