What a smoke shop counter needs from a register
- Fast barcode scanning. Most packaged tobacco and accessories carry UPC barcodes, so most shops scan nearly every item. The register needs a scanner connection and each barcode stored as an item with its price and tax.
- Enough item capacity. Count every barcode you carry, including each size and variety, and leave room to grow. The cards below show each model’s documented capacity.
- Departments that match how you report. For example cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, accessories and other merchandise, each with the tax setup your state requires.
- Clerk and drawer control. Clerk numbers and end-of-day X and Z reports show who rang each sale and what should be in the drawer.
- A printed journal, if you want one. Dual-printer models keep a paper record of every sale inside the register.
Age-restricted sales
A cash register does not replace your age-verification procedure or your legal obligations. ID checks, staff training and any age-verification equipment are planned separately. ID-scanning integration is not something we list for these registers, so ask us before ordering if you need it. Have it Programmed & Ready before it ships
Programming is optional. Choose Programmed & Ready on the register page and we add one hour of standard programming and setup for $100: tax rates, departments, items and prices, clerks, keyboard layout and your receipt header, with a basic configuration review before the register ships. Choose Register Only to set it up yourself. Large item files, data transfers from an old register and unusual peripherals may need extra time, quoted separately.
Card processing is optional, and may come with up to $500 back
You do not have to change processors to buy a cash register. Any register here can be used with a separate card terminal and your current processor. If you want to compare your processing, we can review standalone, semi-integrated or integrated payments, and pricing such as interchange-plus, flat rate, dual pricing or cash discount, as a separate step after the register is chosen.
Eligible approved merchants may qualify for a rebate of up to $500 toward eligible equipment, programming, setup or approved switching costs when setting up merchant processing through SAM4sDirect. The actual rebate depends on processing volume, merchant approval, program availability and the final equipment and processing package. A rebate is not guaranteed until eligibility and the final program are confirmed.

Replacing an older register?
Tell us the make and exact model of the register you have now (SAM4S, Samsung, Casio, Sharp or another brand), with a photo of the keyboard and a sample receipt. We match the keyboard style, printer arrangement, item count and connected equipment to a current model, and say plainly when an old program cannot be moved across directly.

What cash register is best for a smoke shop?
Most smoke shops start with a raised-key register that supports a barcode scanner and has enough item capacity for every product they carry, such as the NR-510RBE, ER-925E or ER-945E. Choose a dual-printer model such as the ER-915E, ER-945E or SPS-345 if you want a printed journal.
Can a SAM4S register check a customer’s age?
No. A traditional register does not verify age or replace the store’s ID-check procedure. Plan age verification, staff training and any ID-scanning equipment separately.
How many items can these registers hold?
It depends on the model: the NR-510RBE stores over 3,200 items (8,000 with an SD card), the ER-900E models up to 22,000 and the SPS-345 over 19,000. Count every barcode you carry before you choose.
Can the register be programmed with my items and taxes before it ships?
Yes. Programmed & Ready adds one hour of standard programming and setup for $100. Large item files or transfers from an old register may need extra time, quoted separately.
Do I have to use your card processing?
No. You can keep your current processor and a separate card terminal. Processing eligibility depends on what you sell and on processor approval, so if you want to compare options we review that separately.
